Who’s Narrating Your Story?
Welcome to Jackalope Counseling, where who you are and who you want to be matters. I work with people to craft new stories, ones that allow them the freedom to live life according to their terms.
What I Do
I provide therapy to adults across the lifespan who are experiencing adjustment difficulties, anxiety, depression, or are struggling in the aftermath of a traumatic experience. I have specialized training and experience working with veterans, first responders, women, and older adults. I believe in equitable access to health care, and therefore accept most major insurances, including Medicaid and Tricare.
Who I am
Hello! Thank you for visiting my website. I'm Jess, a clinically trained social worker and therapist. My approach to well-being focuses on the dominant stories in your life that either cause distress or serve as sources of support and strength. Many clients come to me because they are experiencing a dissonance between societal norms that dictate what their lives should look like and what they would like to believe for themselves. I work with people to identify these problematic stories that are hindering growth and author new stories that are aligned with their preferences for living. I believe our identities are constantly being constructed, and we therefore have the power to develop new perspectives on our past, the present, and on what the future might hold. If any of this resonates with you, please contact me to schedule a free 20-minute consultation!
“People don’t usually make up their life narratives from scratch. We are all born into stories, and those stories shape our perceptions of what is possible; but we don’t usually think of the stories we are born into as stories. We think of them as “reality.”
— Jill Freedman and Gene Combs
